You can have the most beautiful tiles in the world, but if the tile grout is yellowed, stained or mouldy, the whole surface looks tired. Cement-based grout is porous and can hold dirt, limescale and mould.
Regular grout cleaning
For regular maintenance, warm water and baking soda applied with a small brush can remove much of the surface dirt. Scrub along the grout line, leave it to act, then rinse and dry.
How to whiten yellowed tile grout
To whiten grout, you can use specific cleaners, baking soda paste or hydrogen peroxide. Avoid repeated use of pure bleach: over time it can damage cement-based grout.
Mould in bathroom grout
In wet areas, use a specific anti-mould product and work on prevention: dry shower walls, ventilate the bathroom and improve air circulation.
How to prevent the problem
- Epoxy grout: more resistant to stains and humidity.
- Narrower grout lines: less porous surface exposed.
- Large formats: fewer linear metres of grout to clean.
